WELCOME TO HASSOCKS DRAMA COLLECTIVE

Youth Theatre Group in Hassocks

Offering fun-filled drama tuition for individuals aged 11-17 to learn teamwork, build confidence, and much more!

By taking part in our weekly classes, teens and tweens of all abilities are able to find their own authentic voice while making friends, boosting focus, improving vocabulary, reading and diction – which are all just some of the many life-long skills that acting can help to advance and develop.

Will, Lyra and Pantalaimon

This group is ideal for young people of all abilities from Year 7 (start of secondary school) through to Year 12 (sixth form).

We are dedicated to creating inclusive and age-appropriate drama experiences that unleash creativity in safe and supportive learning environments.

Inspriring young minds through the world of performing arts is our passion. By putting the needs of each member centre stage and making every rehearsal rewarding and fun, we encourage everyone to be whoever they want to be so they can shine, both on and off stage.

Through production participation, our members are able to gain an understanding of storylines, scripts and stagecraft etiquette that would enable them to manifest empathy and compassion as well as an appreciation of transferable situations and perspectives.

We know life is busy, which is why we are always open to new members who have a desire to perform.

Through positive reinforcement, respect and teamwork, numerous invaluable life skills will be developed on and off-stage through a variety of carefully crafted acting techniques that encompass:

  • method acting
  • character development
  • breathing techniques
  • movement and interpretation
  • voice exercises and vocal training
  • creative thinking
  • improvisation
  • personal development
  • mindfulness

By playing drama games and rehearsing scripted stage productions from different genres, all our members will have the chance to:

  •  be creative
  • make friends and share interests
  • learn authenticity
  • connect with their emotions
  • enjoy being spontaneous
  • build confidence
  • create wonderful memories
  • express themselves
  • boost concentration abilities
  • enhance reading, vocabulary and diction skills

But most importantly, our classes are fun!

Our inclusive programme honours all ages and abilities, including for SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disability).

Throughout our six week terms, our highly skilled, experienced, qualified and certified lead tutor – Mr Tim Rowland – nurtures a sense of pride and self-esteem in each of our members ensuring that time spent learning will be enjoyable and engaging.

If needed, we also offer personalised 1-2-1 tuition to support aspiring thespians prepare for performing arts exams (e.g. Trinity College), monologues and productions.
